The lack of food and A/C would bother me the most. I am an assistant scoutmaster here and I was wondering if the scouts are helping in your area. Fuel is a big problem every where. I just got to where I can afford a new truck and after the sticker shock for the truck I have to deal with the sticker shock for the fuel. George, friends of mine were giving me a hard time this year when unleaded was less than diesel fuel. Now, in my area, diesel is anywhere between 10 and 30 cents a gallon cheaper! Have you considered a diesel pickup truck? They're not as noisy and smelly as they once were. I love my Duramax. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I love my Duramax. I am still researching this but I am considering propane. It is supposed to be about $1.80 a gallon. The problem is the cost of the conversion. Supposedly about $,2000. Mileage is supposed to be about the same. The one problem with diesel is you can't find it everywhere. It is probably easxier to find than propane. Here in town diesel seems to be availible at about 1/3 of the gas stations. Out of town it might be a problem. If I could afford the diesel I could probably also afford a Transfer Flow tank to increase my capacity. They work well, I installed about five of them in the new Fords in our towing fleet. Not sure if you could fill a propane power car at a place that fills propane bottles but they are disappearing not that bottle swap places have popped up. Diesel is every where in Louisiana. There gas stations that carry diesel along with truck stops. There are no lines in the diesel lanes. The lines for gasoline remind me of the 70's embargo. Sarge |

They got about 1/3 less milage with propane compared to gas - not worth it back then - may be different now. We changed to diesel as fast as possible. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |

I would think that the availability of diesel is better than that of propane. While I know it's not an indicator of what's going on in the real world, here in Rhinelander, we have 10 gas stations, 7 of which carry diesel. None of these stations allow propane refueling. When I travel, once I get to 1/2 tank, I start looking and find a truck stop. I've never been stranded for diesel yet, finding it even in remote areas in Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but I don't recall ever seeing advertised pricing for fueling propane in a vehicle. I'm thinking that soon I'll replace my diesel pickup truck and it will in all liklihood be another diesel. More torque, more horsepower, better towing, longer duty cycle and typically better fuel milage than a comparably equipped gasoline powered truck.
