How many people read ROFF?

YIKES !! That's something most NNTP admins would never do. Or
at least we never did back in the day. That would be like the
library keeping track of all the books you checked out. The
cops can't subpoena what you don't have so the library doesn't

Of course, this was all pre 9-11, gawd only knows what goes on
nowadays but so far as I know once you return a book to the UI
library there is no record of you having checked it out. I hope
the same is still true of NNTP logs.

Keeping bulk statistics has always been done. Nothing personally
identifiable was kept. I've personally seen the web viewing
request statistics emanating(SP?) from a given webserver (pre 9-11
days). This was back in the early web days. I always assumed
they looked at what usenet groups were requested from the server
even if just to decide which groups they didn't have to carry.

There were 320 ROFF subscribers 30 seconds ago. Who the hell knows how
many read the group. I'd guestimate perhaps ALL from time to time?
