I applied Gink to just the body of the fly and very little of it too, even
put some on the tippet.

You'll get an earful about old Gherke with this Subject:
header.

I don't use Gink-type floatants anymore, I use Frog Fanny
and an Amadou. The combo works a lot better than Gink
ever did and you don't leave an oil slick on the water
or your vest.

I still don't know if I buy the Abolene Hand Cream business, as I was in a
department store once, and the version on the counter didn't look quite like
Gink, didn't smell like it (it had a fragrance, Gink does not), and didn't
feel like it, but YMMV.

Gink and Albolene are exactly the same thing to my senses.

I rarely use Gink or Gink-type floatants any longer. Cabosil TS-720 (aka
Frog's Fanny) works better.

No need to panic Wolfgang, nothing against you or anybody for that matter,
but I could see now that some here had personal issues with Gehrke. I
didn't know the history of Gink Floatant except for the fact that it works.

Just in the nick of time. Panic was imminent.

Lots of people had personal issues with George Gehrke. In this regard he
was no different from many another. In light of later developments, it
turned out that some of those issues were legitimate, while others were
manufactured by their owners. Once again, nothing unusual.

As for his products.......mixed reviews. I don't recall whether or not I
ever used any of them myself. Common sense suggests that their popularity
(which, evidently, continues to this day) is a testimony to their efficacy.

Good response post Wolfgang, clears up a lot of things about the product.

We carry most all the different floatants to keep people happy and Gink is
still number one for us.

I use Gink and think it floats flies better than Aquel, for example, but
Aquel remains more viscous in cold weather, so I usually switch for
fishing in the winter.

I like Aquel when it's hot too, doesn't get as runny as Gink. BTY, I hadn't
realized that the Loon founder died this year until I read it the other day in
FR&R.

I admired George Gherke a lot. He was a curmudgeon but also a generous,
genuine, genious western gentleman. Been using Gink a lot over the
years and have some hats and material George sent me out of pure
generousity. I love the machine gun oil, don't remember the quote but
it was VERY American.

I received a tube of Flyagra over the 4th. Haven't tried it yet.

Your pal,
