Here is the picture http://picasaweb.google.com/Dan.versacorp.cn/Adams Hook: Mustad 539 12# (same as Dai-Riki 320 12#) Thread: grey Wing: grey hackle tips tied over the body Tail: grey and brown hackle barbs Hackle: grey and brown This one is the eighth adams I tied today. I have found the wing is a little longer. I have tried my best to use the smallest rooster neck feather. Could you guys tell me any other things I should pay attention to? Thanks Other than the wing needing to be shorter by about 1/3, its not a bad looking tie. With wings that long, the fly will tend to spin when being cast, and will likely twist the leader. Although the body of an Adams is usually done with grey dubbing (commonly muskrat underfur) the body material you used looks passable. IMO, wings on an Adams are a cosmetic anachronism -- the fish don't see them. They're a PITA to tie in, and they can cause the tippet to twist, as you point out. At best, they make it easier for the angler to see the fly on the water, but a hi-vis antron post would work better. Is an Adams ties sans wings still an Adams? Not quite, it becomes an uncle Fester ![]() |
