If you're a once a week angler you'll find that very little survives if you just hang the nets up to dry in daylight - the uv kills everything in time. What you shouldn't do is go from one water to another without giving the nets time to dry. In this case a chlorine based disinfective works well but may well damage the mesh. Phenolics are ok for most purposes but might be considered unsuitable in some cases. Boiling works too.
