Op --does anyone know, if cat gut degrades fairly rapidly, and what's it
taste like?-- Can't say how fast it degrades uncooked. Cooked, it tastes rather like chicken. Although, one species of gut tastes pretty much like another. My personal experience is that dog is the better entre. The old fur trappers reportedly enjoyed cougar even more than bison or elk. -- Stev Lenon 91B20 '68-'69 Drowning flies to Darkstar http://web.tampabay.rr.com/stevglo/i...age92kword.htm |

Realistically, we shouldn't even use normal monofiliment, because it has a
pretty long life expectancy as well. How many fish have we caught or seen that have run afoul of mono of any type? Each sport comes with its' own set of environmental risks which change as technology changes. I suppose we should all go back to gut leaders, but then PETA will be chaining themselves to cats and whatever else we may use, it is a no win situation. I pick up alot of lost mono etc. on the water while I am out, I figure it more than makes up for the little that I lose. So perhaps that is a fair trade-off, pick up more than you leave behind? "steve" wrote in message ... Fly fisherman usually pride themselves on their environmental responsibility. Yet flourocarbin will basically NEVER decompose. It seems preety environmentally irresponsible to use. What are people's opinions on this? |

No it doesn't, it breaks down. The mere action of current and water action
rubbing it against the snag or the rocks and once free as it tumbles along means it breaks down into minute pieces pretty quickly unless it is in virtually stagnant water and I can't imagine that would happen often. While it may not biodegrade, it does break up into pieces so small it offers no real environmental problem. -- Clark Reid http://www.dryflynz.com Umpqua Designer Flytier |
