13 degrees?! But how do you enjoy an evening grilling steaks on the patio?
How do you take an early morning walk on the beach without a parka? Why, it
sounds like you can't even wear shorts and a T-shirt when you go fishing!
Hard to imagine...

Cheers,
Bill
-And I *know* you remember those sunny 75 degree January days :-)

Imagine THIS! ,,!,
ESAD, Bill, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. BTW, I grill steaks
on the patio all winter. With ten feet of snow on the ground, you'll still find
a nicely shoveled path to my trusty grill.

Both. And I call that "flavor enhancement", not rust.

I grill all winter too. I keep the grill right by the garage door and
roll it out as I need it.

That WOULD be the preferred method. However, not having a garage handicaps the
process.

(it might not take more than one sheet of plywood...)

om...
I am starting up my list (Christmas is coming) for the Western Clave
and I was wondering what is suggested for things like?

1) Fly rods
2) Secret Leader formulas sizes etc.
3) Flies
4) Fly lines
5) Wading shoe soles (I have felt, do we need studs too?)
6) Any other suggestions of equipment & supplies?

PS I found a pretty good fly fishing checklist on the web at:

http://www.timeoffoutdoors.com/Produ...hecklists.html

Chris,

Sorry for the sarcasm. Just a bit of fun.

Fly Rods: 4 or 5 wt, 9 footer for your primary rod. If you've got a 6 wt,
you might bring it for windy days. Oh, and bring your 3 wt for the little
streams.

No secret leaders as far as I know.

Flies: Might I suggest: EHC's, Parachute Adams, Royal Wulffs, Stimulators,
Beetles, PMDs, Pheasant Tails (in all their varieties and variations), and
little brown mohair streamers.

Fly lines: No need for sinkers or sink tips.

Felts are fine

Other supplies: Sunglasses, ice, beer, a well tuned BFS is a must, one nice
bottle of wine, waders, and a vest to hold your stuff so it all gets wet at
once.

Danl

Looking forward to helping you with the wine....

and I was wondering what is suggested for things like?

1) Fly rods

4-6 wts. 4 wt for calm, dry fly fishing. 5 wt for all around stuff and a 6 wt
for windy/big fly days. Personally, I use a 6 wt more than any other rod I
own.

2) Secret Leader formulas sizes etc.

None. Heavy leaders (3x or 4x) for big flies, 6x leader for dry flies. I
typically buy a 9' 5x and then adjust it as I go.

3) Flies

Orange stimulators, yellow stimulators, royal wulffs, parachute adams, EHC,
PMDs, etc.

Here are some hatch charts for you to look over:

http://www.yellowstonenationalpark.com/mischatches.htm

4) Fly lines

I WF or WT line in appropriate size for your rod(s). A sinking line could come
in handy for fishing any of the high mountain lakes (RW pack trips?), local
lakes or for streamer fishing some of the deep holes in the rivers.

5) Wading shoe soles (I have felt, do we need studs too?)

Studs would be better, but you can get by with just felts.

6) Any other suggestions of equipment & supplies?

Beer, more beer, and then a few more. A good bottle of wine for the genteel or
a good bottle of whiskey for the rest of us. Are you camping or lodging? You
don't need to bring artic clothing, but good layering will beneficial. I have
seen the weather change 50 degrees F in a single day from daytime high to
nighttime low.

Glad to see you back around Doc Creel.

BTW, my webpage has some info that might be of interest to you. Check out
http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt/infopage.html

I need to get off my duff and update the links and info for Mayhem on the
Madison II....... Maybe I will start tonight.
