I agree: the manufacturers have instituted what is in
effect not a warranty but no-falut insurance, and I have
taken full advantage of it. A number of times. My
suspicion is that one reason they did so was to get
away from the adversarial situations caused when
fishermen lied about how their rods broke. It's
amazing how strong the fish used to be. The only
really strong ones left nowadays are the ones that
get away....

Diamondback (Cortland) repaired the rod that the boat seat victimized
at Byng. Told 'em it was the boat seat and they replaced the tip
anyway. Had they not had the tip in stock, I would've received a
brand new Stu Apt 10 wt. instead.

yeah, its part of an international conspiracy to inflate rod prices.

By the way, our season never ends either. I usually get to fish each month
of the year.

I've always wanted to be part of an INTERNATIONAL conspiracy! Your run of
the mill local, regional and national conspiracies are so limited in their
scope. Just think, if we can get everyone here at ROFF to break their rods
at the end of each and every season (relatively speakin'), we could enjoy
endless threads about how, when, and where the breakage occurred. We could
work-up a form letter to send to each rod manufacturer requestin'
replacement. Hell, we could even have 'claves dedicated to the breakin' of
rods. Mind ya timin' would be of critical importance concernin' these
'claves.

No, I wasn't calling you a dumbass. If I were calling you a dumbass I would
have said you're a dumbass, not "What a dumbass." I was calling the fly shop
owner a dumbass. I know several fly shops owners, a couple of outfitters and
many guides. I have never known any of them to intentionally break a piece of
equipment just so they can use the warranty and get a new piece of gear out of
the deal. I do know several people that have broken rods and used the warranty
though. To simply blame high warranty costs on guides is both stupid and wrong
IMO.

before. And it *was* a boat designed & built by
Canadians, making it that much more believable :-)


Lund is Canadian? The wobbly, rod-hating seat was in the 16 footer,
not that welded aluminum beauty of Canadian craftsmanship that the
guide was using.
