I was surprised because I think both rods are pretty darn
nice, but prefer the Sage for most use. * * * My point, NO way my
beginner wife could have picked her Scott out a group of rods with
'similar' action, but she clearly could tell a difference between
sticks of the same wt, even as a newbie.

I find that I prefer my Sage rods -I have several of them and I prefer them
over similar wts of *Orvis & Thomas & Thomas rods.
I find that I can cast easier & more accurately with the Sage rods
Lamson reels are fine and altho not at the top of the line they are
addordable and rugged.

I do believe in many cases & for the most part, with instruments and various
tools, You do get what you pay for

I agree.......in most cases. I guess, on reflection, that my point
was not that: quality did not make a difference, but, rather that:
beyond a certain point, I (me, and only me) cannot see any
differences.
A fine roofing hammer will do a fine job, but a gold plated one will
not do a better job.

My best rod was a 6 1/2 ft. glass Phillipson -- soft as silk, and
could cast amazing distances with 1970's lines. [ useless for
steelhead, of course, and scared the **** out of me when I got into a
big dolly on the upper Selway ]

Glad we have choices.

cheers

oz
