Ironically very few of the left's imagined targets will be affected. Those
with money will merely holiday in Ireland, France, the USA or one of the
many other countries where hunting with hounds continues. (We still get
hunting tourists coming here to experience hunting English style but that
little industry will die too.)

Outside a day's drive from London the bulk of hunters are relatively
low-income types who might otherwise have been expected to be Labour voters.
(A hunt subscription costs about as much as a football season ticket.)
Even if you are one of the relatively few that ride to hounds rather than
following on foot a horse doesn't cost a great deal to keep -if- you have
access to grazing (notice how many little girls keep a pony on pocket money
even in cities.)

I don't think they know who they are affecting. By far the greater numbers
of hunters and shooters are working class. Anglers, if anything, include a
greater proportion of middle and upper classes. The great thing about all
the field sports is that once you have the basics the lord, the bank manager
and the dustman are pretty much equal and meet on equal terms though they
probably don't know each other's backgrounds.

Believe it...this piece of legislation is a 'test case' if you like, the
floodgates are well and truly flung wide open now.

It is. The antis are delighted. They have this one through on
misinformation and predjudice. Now, using it as a precedent they can attack
all sorts of other targets that were previously too hard to crack - ie. us.

I sincerely hope the Conservatives are elected next time. I want to be able
to fish undisturbed for the rest of my life. I don't hunt btw, though I
know several who do and I'm very glad we haven't, so far, been harrassed the
way they have.

It won't make a difference who gets the vote, just look at the undemocratic
way this piece of legislation was brought in...Tony tells his cohorts which
way to vote and they all have to go along with it or get the chop...if this

He didn't tell them. He knew it would be trouble but he couldn't stop it so
he played with the timing.

IF it passes or bypasses the Lords as is, it will take effect in the new
year. The proverbial will hit the fan just as we hit the run-up to the next
general election.

Teflon Tony doesn't want hounds and horses being shot or handed over to the
RSPCA who will also have to kill them (they make lousy pets) just as he's
asking for your vote. He doesn't want farmers dumping dumping dead or dying
livestock at the same time. (The hunts take 'fallen' stock for nothing and
dispose of it legally and hygenically. The alternative government scheme
isn't running properly yet and costs a lot more than the animal is worth.
It is no longer legal to bury livestock on the farm. Deadstock cannot be
trasported to an incinerator except by a licenced hazardous waste
transporter who must take special precautions, the incinerator will
charge.)

So alongside the bill is another to delay it's implementation for two years.
The delay cannot be made part of the hunting bill itself or it wouldn't be
possible to bypass the Lords. The delay puts all these unpleasant scenes
safely into the next parliament when the PM hopes to smother them beneath
other pressing news.

The delay doesn't affect hare coursing btw: But then the bulk of hare
coursing is already illegal - the antis never seem to tangle with the
city-based coursing gangs that break gates and trespass on farmland to 'try'
their dogs.
