Not anymore. I only use tapered Riverage Flourcarbon 12" leaders for

A one foot long leader does sound pretty simple. g

I don't know about that. It would be pretty tough to fit five or six
segments in that 12". The advantage would be that it's just GOTTA be
less prone to wind knots.

Hey all,

I usually just buy the prepackaged leaders but was wondering what if
any, are the advantages / disadvantages of "rolling your own" leaders?

TIA,

Randy

:-)

Disadvantages of the knots - picking up scum/algae and other detritus.
(I've often wondered whether the knotless have less tendency toward
knot failure ;-)

Advantages: you can build your own custom tapers, lengths etc. However,
like purchasing them, you get what you pay for, in the case of rolling
your own you pay in pay in time.

Hybrids are pretty good: you can recycle your knotless by adding heavier
butt material and new tippet sections, in effect 3 section leader with a
knotless taper.
