still, on the whole this(as with the vast bulk of the 'stories' generated
thus far in the election cycle) strikes me as trivial....and, that's being
sort of generous. Let's face it:
the real show doesn't start until after the conventions, and I sure do hope
there is a bit more to chew on than the
assorted "gaffes", dissecting Obama's trip abroad, Jesse Jackson, and how
McCain parses recent history. There is the potential(as I stated to you,
once, I believe) for an real debate as to the nature of how to move the
nation forward. Now, let's see if these two can deal with holding that
debate, or whether the whole process turns into the usual media-driven
drivel-fest.

The trouble is the American voter is so goddamn stupid the only
way to win is to play the usual media-driven, drivel-fest game
better than the other guy.

Sad but true. And I think Obama is not only up to the task but
pretty damn good at it. Also sad but true.

I would venture to say that if he played the saxophone he would be
guaranteed the WH. Curious as to who he will select for veep.

How ya doin', btw?

Those are two completely different issues - what's actually telling
about a candidate and party leadership and what'll be flogged to the
public as important...

There is the potential(as I stated to you,

Oh, there's always that potential...and my guess is, the above, that
the meaningful debate and the actual campaign won't so much as cross
paths...

Now, let's see if these two can deal with holding that
debate, or whether the whole process turns into the usual media-driven
drivel-fest.

"Turns into"...?! Obama and his entourage (containing nary a Senate
staffer) goes to the Western Wall as part of his "fact finding,
non-campaign visit" with 9,134 reporters in tow, puts some paper under a
rock while, pardon the pun, God only knows how many people watched, and
then acts shocked - SHOCKED, I TELL YA!! - that someone not only grabbed
up but printed his "prayer"...you couldn't separate "drivel-fest" from
"media" with a pair of D11s and the anchor rode from an aircraft
carrier...

AH-HAH!! I knew if I waited long enough, someone, somewhere would
finally clearly state one thing his record clearly demonstrates that in
which he truly excels...well, it's sad but true...

Thanks,

Cities have been known to do all sorts of things to attract
conventions.

All sorts of things besides things like this. FWIW, the Dems are/were
also getting thousands of free parking spaces (and myriad other "perks,"
like car washes) while the GOP is paying some 500 grand for its parking
needs, etc.

I'll bet the genius who came up with the tax-free
gas idea was a Denver Republican.

Apparently, not unless the Mayor and councilwoman switched parties for
the day. And as an aside, those involved apparently deliberately
underestimated the gas and bifurcated other "perks" out into separate
columns so as to keep each amount under the 500 grand ceiling needed for
council approval.

Hey, conventions are good for
bidness. The **** hit the fan, the DNC pays up. So what.

If you hadn't already claimed to have no rooting interest in
the 2008 presidential election

I never claimed to have "no rooting interest," I stated that I didn't
particularly care which of the two won. I always have an interest...and
a principle...and a principal...

Yeah, Obama is looking more and more "Clintonian" every day.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's actually a relief
to see a Dem willing to do whatever it takes to win instead
of pandering to the leftie lunatic fringe.

I don't know about veep. It won't be Billary and my choice,
John Edwards, is up to his nuts in an Enquirer scandal. In
the end I don't think it matters much.

I'm doin' fine, thanks for askin'.

Yeah that's all yow got:

"EXTRA EXTRA, "
"City gives perks to major convention!!!" READ ALL ABOUT IT.
"Chamber expects retail sales to reach new highs."
"Convention Bureau hints 2010 Dentist Confab in the Bag for Mudville."
"Flash!FlasH!"
"Sorry-assed Republicrat losers flog issue, "Its just so wrong, so
really wrong," says a tearful Mr. Dean, from his convent cell at Our
Lady of Perpetual Concern."
Details at 11.

Lets talk about some real scandal. War Profiteering, Tom Delay and the
slaves in Saipan. The money the Republican Party has taken from the
Saudis, The missing $16 billion, Dick Cheney's dealings with Libya.
Who paid for the Pres's ranch. The Fbi's ongoing espionage
investigations of Bush administration personnel. Administration
suppression of mine safety inspections and subsequent fatal
consequences. Republican donor/contractor failure to up-armor US
vehicles in Iraq. FBI investigation of prostitute access to the White
house. Medicare fraud and Republican "fundraising."
This would make a start.
