Anyone tried the Sufix mono? If so, pros and cons.
Normally I use Power Pro for braid and McCoy's Mean Green for mono. Just wondering..... -- Doyce |

I picked up a few spools of the DNA last year at ICAST and I've gotta say...
I'm pretty impressed with it. I normally use 12# Stren, but got 17# Suffix blue flourescent for night fishing. I can't tell much difference in the line compared to the 12# Stren. Give it a try... I think it's holding up fairly well for me and I fish alot of rock! "Doyce McIlveene" wrote in message news:aPQLd.14990$PB.4747@okepread01... Anyone tried the Sufix mono? If so, pros and cons. Ya know... right now, I'd be happy to set the hook on a big ole boulder.
Maybe Saturday... I may even catch a fish! "go-bassn" wrote in message ... "Charles Summers" I fish alot of rock! Catch any big boulders lately Chaz? WW;-) |

On Tim's Ford today, we were rounding a sharp point, coming into the windy
side, and I commented that we should be getting bit right about then. Not ten seconds later, I felt the familiar thump and set the hook. My pole bent as the line cut through the water toward our stern. I commented to Rick that it didn't feel like a bass.... maybe a big drum? For sure, it was just burrowing down toward deeper water and made no effort to jump. I loosened my drag a bit, since we'd drifted away from shore, and settled into the task of retrieving line. Rick took one look at my pole and jumped for the net. Good thing he had it, too, because when the rock came to the surface, it was a good 12 pounds. He netted it and swung it aboard, where I unhooked it, paused for quick photos, and released it unharmed to fight again. It was over so fast... only later did I wonder if it might have been a line class record, since I was using 6 pound mono.... Suffix, by the way. I've used Suffix for the past two years, and my perspective is that it's the best mono I've ever tried. I have now bought big spools of it in several test sizes (6#, 8#, 10#, 14#, and 17#, I think). I'd like to see some objective lab tests done on it, comparing it to other monofilament lines. In all the categories, I think it would rate well. Relatively little memory.... nick and abrasion resistant.... durable... good color choices (kind of a lemonade green, clear, and fluorescent). If you try it, I think you'll be satisfied. Joe you forgot one more important thing It last longer on the reel. I change line every couple of weeks, but I have one bait caster with Suffix on it, this reel gets used every trip, and I have not had, or needed to change that line in 6 months, it's still limp, and feels great. I've never had line hold up like this -- Rodney Long, Inventor of the Long Shot "WIGGLE" rig, SpecTastic Thread Boomerang Fishing Pro. ,Stand Out Hooks ,Stand Out Lures, Mojo's Rock Hopper & Rig Saver weights, Decoy Activator and the EZKnot http://www.ezknot.com |

Many thanks to all that responded.
My home lake is Lake Fork, a lake that just eats most monos, hence my use of Mccoy's Mean Green. It is very abrasion resistant and strong, but has a bit too much memory for my liking. I have a couple of reels that I need to respool, so I will pick up a couple of spools of Sufix and give it a try. Keep yer line wet and your fanny dry, -- Doyce "Doyce McIlveene" wrote in message news:aPQLd.14990$PB.4747@okepread01... Anyone tried the Sufix mono? If so, pros and cons.
