Re question of my attendance at western clave----Jeff a very firm commitment
six months out is tough to assure at my age--if you think air fare has gone
up go see a dentist.--with my teeth falling out every month and crowns now
up to 900$ my squaw suggest we might have to live in a tepee in the back
yard and rent out our house. How ever I would love to hear some more swedish
folk songs and perhaps help start a few campfires so can only say at this
time I am undecided. If you want to go ahead and firm up another bed fellow
please realize I understand.

Re Penns a definite no--good group of fellows but 37 minutes of fishing in
the dark each evening just cannot compete with a good day on a mountain
stream--camping on Slickrock sounds like a magnanimous event. If we got
two others to help carry the beer and water we could go down at Fatgap ,
camp along middle of stream, two fish upstream and two downstream first day
and switch directions the second day---then my load going back uphill would
be empty beercans!!

Re salt water inside fishing my kayak is hung in garage till spring but
planning to try Fla fishing----- in February--see
www.chokoloskeecharters.com ---the guy writes good trip reports
Jeff you might enjoy Mike Marsh's new book Inshore Angler-Coastal
Carolina"s Small Boat Fishing Guide

Re Fly fishing for bass--my big plans for spring--this is probably last year
I will have access to big pond on my golf course as housing is consuming
all my put in points so plan to ware out my shoulder with 6weigh.
Probably will suffer similar to Laffette ( don"t spell french well} who
complained of shoulder pain after shaking hands all day when touring the
south after the Revolution

joe, i can recall two good looking ponds on your golf course. iirc,
they are on successive holes. the first is a short par 4, with the pond on
golfer's left. the next one is larger, on a long, asswhipper of a 4 par,
and again on the left.

is this the one you are speaking of?

ij replies--the second big pond on 14th hole--by the way you should plan to
try "MY" course in the spring--the golfers are trying to upgrade to
masters quality--new greens-new sand- at least the assessment they
charged this now non golfer should pay for those results

i recall some great looking trees and other structure on the far left
side of that pond. also, some giant cattails. pretty, dark water.

i may be through with the game. i played once since last june, and on
that occasion, sept 11, broke an upper left canine by hitting an exposed
root; ball rebounds into my mouth, i go down like a sack of lead 'taters,
and the replacement tooth is gonna cost a fortune.
besides, i don't have to work 14 hour days to make up for those two
afternoons a week that i spent on the course.

jeez joe, you're my archetype for senior citizenship... i've sent in the
deposit for july 8-15 in cabin 8. think that's the one on the end where
the texan stayed.g anyway, you've got a bed there til you say you
ain't goin.

and...i'm a no-go for penns too, so let's plan a slickrock jaunt. as i
recall, opie's got a big tent and bunches of camping stuff, he can carry
a refrigerator full of beer, and he doesn't drink. ...perfect traveling
companion. g

Let me know when you do that and I may wander up to watch.

Ha. I really must be lucky, what with having no job and able to play
golf or fish 7 days a week without worrying about anything except my
health, AND when I come home I have a beautiful loving wife to greet
me. d;o) You just didn't plan your life very well, counselor. d;o)

I'm also fortunate to have a super grand daughter and have to take
this moment to brag about her.

http://tinyurl.com/bnowp

She's #12 on the Oakmont Regional H.S. freshman girls basketball team
and is setting a few school records. She plays center and has 80
points in five games. Quite the little athlete, taking after her two
big brothers who taught her well. And, she's a flyfisher too!

I've cancelled my winter trip to Patagonia because of my health.
However, I've been thinking about going down to North Cacklakie and do
some fishing with you, jlm, walt, whomever. How 'bout something in
April? What you do, counselor, is put $5 a day in a mayonaise jar,
and come April you will have enough money to take a day or two off to
go fishing. Okay, make it $8 a day - I know how high priced you are.
Plan, plan, plan.

Dave (Luckiest sob in the world)

It's amazing how one's mind becomes rejuvenated after a year and a half of
abstinence; so for future reference, I don't carry no one's beer no mo! And
another thing! I quit smokin' on my B-day and am capable of climbing tall
ridges in a single bound now!

Seriously, while I won't carry anyone's libations, I do have a gob of
campin' gear and the desire to do some hikin' and campin'. Let's plan a
campin' trip somewhere in the state this year. I won't be able to go outta
state this year, as I expect to have back surgery in the near future, but I
expect to be able to camp and fish in state.

I finally broke down and bought myself a decent magnifying /lamp combo, for
tie flying. I stumble on AC Moore's Art and Crafts Store, in Hickory and
the carry the Daylight (ultra-thin--1.75X) brand. It has a 6 or 7 inch dia.
magnifying glass, and a fluorescent lamp works great. They wanted $149.00
for it, but when I looked as if I was about to go elsewhere a stare
attendant said that she would knock 50% off of it. I had looked all over
Lenoir for a good comb, but ended up at Lowe's Hardware and bought a POS
that I returned today, as the lamp head wouldn't stay in place and the
magnifying glass distorted everything under it, terribly?

Anyway, I'm well on my way to having enough flyz tied for the swap that I
may just go ahead and tie a bonus fly for all the swappers. I settled on a
Hex Spinner Extended-body Mayfly, let's fish!

well, damn... you're twice as healthy and half as good as necessary. g
we'll have to make do with the equipment and figure another way to
manage the chilly beer. but...we're gonna do the gt toupper falls trip
this year...that might be a good camping adventure too, eh, brute? g
