My oldest niece is getting married, (outdoors and barefoot ?
what's *that* all about ;-), in Asheville on Saturday June 10.

We'll arrive Thursday and being male and therefore a fifth wheel
for wedding purposes I'll have all day Friday June 9 to fish.

Anybody have a recommendation for someplace to fish for a few
hours on a Friday in June near Asheville ?

Fawn Lake is particularly nice this time of year.

LOL !! That recommendation is every bit as useful and appropriate
as the first recommendation of that so-called lake in this forum.

I hope the guy who asked the question in the first place gave the
original recommendation all the consideration I'm giving this one.

LOL! No, but there is a Fontana Lake nearby. It's down there near
Ashville/Cherokee somewhere. If all else fails, there is a Harrah's Casino
at Cherokee. Fishing, gambling, it's nearly the same....otherwise they'd
call them Catching and Winning :-)

Fontana is too far away, there has to be a decent trout stream
somewhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway long before you get to
Cherokee. Besides, I don't fish Fontana Lake, it looks like a
toilet bowl with a big red **** ring running all around it.
Ugliest friggin' impoundment I ever saw.

i've never fished the asheville environs. there is some beautiful water
north of the city, but it's all in the asheville watershed, and closed to
sport fishing.
there's supposed to be some pretty good fishing in the davidson river
and the south mills river around brevard, nc, which is about 30 miles
southwest of a-ville.
i believe indian joe has roamed around that area. might try to ping him
up.

rmgd runs in the family?

;-)

Yeah, I'm not allowed to have favorites of course, but
of my six nieces, if I could have a favorite, she'd be
the one. ;-)

At any rate, it'll be nice to see the family at a wedding
instead of a funeral.

WOW! Why don't you say what you think next time! lol

Try this link:

http://www.ncwildlife.org/fs_index_03_fishing.htm

Has an interactive map with public access areas, covers the entire Western
portion of NC. It's the best I can do, even as a local/native. My haunts are
in the Northern NC mountains.

Ok, the map must be in a container, as the link doesn't take you where I
intended:

Click on MAPS in the top menubar at the link above. Then click on Region 1
(Mountains) in the map that comes up. Then it will list all the managed
areas in the region. Sorry for the inconvenience.
