Forgot to ask you, did you see any fish on top?

First off, I'm really looking forward to it. It's December 6-9 and most
everyone is staying at Rizuto's.

I was up there Friday and Saturday. The fishing was good although there
were some tremendous slow streaks.

The water is lower than most have seen it at 250 cfs. When there's water in
the lake, 500 cfs is the typical "low flow." so 250 looks pretty "bony" to
use one of Warren's drift boat terms. The slow water is now really slow,
and the main channel's more exposed than ever. And the water is pretty
green in the deeper runs.

The best bugs, if I had to predict, will be worms, larva, midge pupa, and
eggs in that order. Small parachute adams and brooks sprouts might be
good choices if we see any fish eating on the surface. Although it'll be
way fewer than the hundreds that I usually tie, there will be a few new
special patterns for everyone.

I have a really good spot that I'm anxious to take Danl to. RW's already
been there and Willi can catch fish in the parking lot.

Dan'l - We will hit that spot more than once. First thing Saturday to
start.

Willi - I spent most of my time fishing the deeper faster water and didn't
see any consistent risers. Every once in a while a fish would surface and I
did see just a few single fish rising fairly consistently in the same spots.
We'll probably have better luck next week if the weather's calm.

My last trip the San Juan was a month or so ago. I believe I made a
crucial error in ignoring the occasional risers for the first day. Not
thrilled with the nymphing action the second day I finally tied on a
griffith's gnat, and the occasional risers took it with pretty much
reckless abandon. FWIW. :-)

Wish I could be there.

Graham
