I said:
And, it you substituted one of your little plastic minnows for the live
one, you're back to pure fly fishing.

Well that's wrong. It's not pure fly fishing. Maybe I need to drink more
coffee before posting such gibberishg

And Ken said:

Fishing with bait isn't fly fishing, it's bait fishing. Fishing
with plastic minnows isn't fly fishing, it's lure fishing.
Fishing with fur and feathers tied to a hook, *that's* fly fishing.
Not that there's anything wrong with using a fly rod to fish any
legal way you want to fish, but fly rod notwithstanding if you
ain't fishing with a fly you ain't fly fishing.

Where he pointed out the error of my ways. Can't argue with that. I'm not
going to get into any contest about what is or isn't "fly fishing" - I'll
leave it up to IGFA and othersg.

I'm always changing things, adding stuff, doctoring up materials, messing
around - I'd probably not throw pure plastic or pure anything without adding
paint, metal, fur, glitter, feathers, rubber or something. As long as it
catches bass, I don't care. The line blurs when having legal fun g

Going fishing!

LOL. Well, I can honestly say I have never put a bobber on my fly line.
So there! LOL.

Although I have used a 9'+ fly rod with a spinning reel to serve up
minnows to baulky bass, and I didn't use a bobber. LOL.

Well, I have to say that I agree with Ken on this one. Fly fishing is
using a fly, constructed of hair, feathers, maybe some foam rubber and
thread, delivered by the line casting the lightweight "lure". With fly
fishing, you're trying to fool a gamefish with an imitation.

Using live bait, regardless of what rod/reel combination, is livebait
fishing. Sure, it's fun and still a challenge, but it's not fly-fishing!

But there are plastic flys. Mini-hoppers, etc.
