![]() Mike When, What, Where? This is a _very_ long shot, I know: I will be fishing for Atlantic salmon (and maybe grayling) in the northernmost part of Finland right after midsummer (25.6.-), and could arrange a mini-clave if someone is interested. I invited our Swedish friends (Roger et al.) to join, but they had already booked another fishing engagement at the same time. Here are a few photos of the fishing spot next to my camp - as you can see, a two-handed rod helps (I can teach two-handed casting if necessary): http://www.perhokalastajat.org/kuvar...s/dsc02381.jpg http://www.perhokalastajat.org/kuvar...s/dsc02428.jpg -- Jarmo Hurri Commercial email countermeasures included in header email address. ![]() That's an interesting boat! Sort of canoe/dory hybrid, that can handle moving water and a motor. Is there a name for that boat? How can I find out how to build one? |

In Sweden they were/are simply called river boats. The shape makes it easier travelling the rivers. They were quite common during the days of timber flotation. My Grandfather had one, and I have on numerous occasions had the pleasure of riding both up and downstream River Byske. Easy to maneuver and not to wide, the latter meaning that they will cut through the current very well. All in all it is a very good soultion to travel up and down rivers, unless a canoe is sufficient for one's needs. /Roger |

My Grandfather had one /Roger Thank you Roger. That's a start. I've been working with Google, but have not yet found a boat building site that sells blueprints--Swedish, Finnish or Norweigian, or whatever. That's what I want: blueprints. That looks like a damn fine boat. |

![]() Is there a name for that boat? How can I find out how to build one? Roger In Sweden they were/are simply called river boats. They are called river boats here in Finland too. I did find a PDF-file with instructions and drawings - unfortunately the text is in Finnish, but maybe a boat builder like you can make some sense of the obscure drawings: http://www.hirvas-vaappu.com/VENE%20OHJEET.pdf -- Jarmo Hurri Commercial email countermeasures included in header email address. This seems to be much like a long skinny dory at both ends, stretched apart by a flat spot in the middle. That's seems to be the distinguishing characteristic of this boat..........the only way to make a looooong dory that doesn't end up shaped like a bananna. |

They're a boat building Web site and someone there might know more. Or be able to translate the Finnish for you. -- r.bc: vixen Minnow goddess.Speaker to squirrels, willow watcher, etc..
