I would still be willing to bet that the parts are from China, or another
foreign place, but assembled in US. I don't think there's anything truly
100% US made anymore. It's sad. I used to look for items that said "Made
In USA", but somewhere, these things would still have China, Hong Kong,
Taiwan or something stamped on them. Anymore, I just look products over
and buy the best of the junk, what do you do?

Irony, I bought an American flag last year, and it had a sticker on it,
saying, "Product of Malaysia".

I know how you feel Doug, it does get depressing at times, but cheer up. I
know for a fact that Secret Weapon Lures are made in the U.S.A.!

And last February, I was talking with David Gray, the president of Ardent
Reels. He told me that all of their reels are 100% made in the U.S., right
down to the components. Now, are you willing to pay the prices that come
along with the tag "Made in the USA?"

Default OT: A depressing Christmas Gift

Oh yeah Steve, I'll pay the extra for the "Made In USA" stamp, always have,
and if I have a choice, I will now. Such as with my tools, all craftsman,
snap on, or Mac. My OLDER Mitchell reels, with my St. Croix or Loomis rods.
(I will admit that I do have an arsenal of Shimano reels though) I always
look at the tag before I buy, but it IS unfortunate that sometimes, you
don't have a choice. I stay away from Wal-Mart and Harbor Freight at ALL
costs. What I don't understand is how we can fuel the Chinese war machine
with importing as we do, and then complain how big of a threat they
are.....

So how's the health Steve? You frozen over up there yet? Got your ice
fishing gear out? You get a Half-Track conversion kit for your FastCat yet?

I too try to avoid Wal-Mart, and I've never bought anything from Harbor
Freight, but here in the northwoods, our shopping options are very limited.
Like you, I'd much rather buy U.S. made products when ever possible, but
sometimes that just doesn't work. Shimano for example makes a great product
and I was buying them long before I ever heard of Ardent Reels.

Oh, we've been froze over for a long time already. I'm beginning to hate my
snowblower, but it beats a shovel all to heck. The ice fishing gear is
still in mothballs, I'm not done hunting yet. The health is the same, some
days good, some days bad. Yesterday morning was a bad one, to the point I
almost called 911!

Oh yeah, I have an older Ford tractor with a blower on it, but can find
parts anymore for it, and it kept breaking down, so I parked it and bought
one of those self propelled jobbies with the 2 stage. It's a lot harder
with that than with the tractor. I might have to get on a first name basis
with the CNC shop here in town if the snow keeps up. With as much snow as
you guys get up there and with the health, you should look into a small
tractor with a blower? Sit and push buttons.....

Hopefully, it doesn't get to the point that you need to call 911 anytime
soon, lord willing. Personally, I think your heart is telling you to give
up hunting and to go fishing more, that's where your hearts really at.

Have a good one Steve!

Doug
