Thanks, Don. His mother is looking at several other options for him.
There should be some state and maybe federal workshops for him.

Most people who make a living tying flies eat rice or cassava as a
major part of their diet, have outdoor plumbing, live short nasty
lives without health-care, do not speak English, have hands smaller
than 3 of your fingers and may own a bicycle sometime in their lives
if they are very lucky.

Get real. Vinny as a businessman? I assume he already knows how to
jerk off. So why jerk him off about him being able to compete with
people who can thrive in a global market on half the calories he burns
waiting for the bus, or design breakthrough flies in a sport he
doesn't excel in, with that IQ. Have you ever run even a small
business? Most people, including almost all my college educated
friends do not have clue one as to what is involved just in staying
legal, much less turning a profit. Running a business just for a "get
by living" is not worth it.

Reality says he should be directed toward a custodial or housekeeping
job, preferably unionized, with decent health benefits, in a secure
pleasant institutional setting, such as health-care or elder-care. And
be encouraged/taught to find his enjoyment in life and mental peace
from something like fishing and maybe fishing some flies he has tied.

Who said "make a living?" I said he needs some self worth. No one,
especially me, thinks he's going to make a living out of tying flies.

But, thanks for your thoughtful insight, Dave.

Hi Everyone,

I just found this great fly fishing website called www.myfishmaps.com.
This site allows you to map on google maps all your catches, Great way
to track your results from year to year. it also allows for private
groups to communicate with your buddies about catches and other
information. You may want to check it out.

The site also offers frequent fishing points for data added and for
inviting friends; fishing contests are also included.

Hope you enjoy - I just joined!

Jeff

Well, actually, it is about fly tying.......

I have a friend named Vincent (Vinny). *Vinny just "graduated" from
high school. *He is 20 yo. *He received a "certificate of completion"
rather than a HS diploma. *Vinny has an IQ of 70. *He was born of an
alcoholic mother and father, and removed from them soon after his
birth. *Surprizingly, he has fairly good motor skills (he's a whiz at
Quitar Hero!), and can learn - it just takes him a lot longer. *He is
not spastic and has a steady hand and good eyes. *His hearing is
somewhat diminished since birth.

Situation: *Vinny has tried working in a supermarket bagging, and as a
bus boy at a local restaurant. *He hates both of these jobs and thinks
they are beneath him. *He wants, *needs*, a different vocation. *He is
creative and capable of sovling puzzles (jigsaw, for example). *

Questions: *How difficult would it be to teach someone like Vinny to
tie flies? *And, if he is successful at doing so, where could he sell
his creations? *I realize that breaking in to such a market would be
tough for most, but I wonder if Vinny could tie and make a "get by
living" tying flies. *He lives with his single adoptive mother who is
a professional woman and makes a fairly good living. *The most
important thing is that he be accepted and have some worth. *Right now
he is down on himself thinking that he has no real worth. *I am
working with him and trying to change his attitude.

How does Umqua select their tyers? *Orvis? *If he can learn to tie,
and I believe he can, I know of several places that would accept his
flies, but only a few gross at a time. *How does one break into the
professional fly tying community?

In the future, Jeffrey, when you're going to pose as someone who has no
financial interest in a site you're "promoting", don't use a return email
address with a unique domain that maps back to the same registration
credentials as the domain that you are promoting.

Dumbass.
